Projects

I've served as senior developer, lead developer, and application architect on client engagements since 2015, primarily building cloud-native back-end services and microservices. Most of my work has been for Danish public agencies and financial institutions, where the systems tend to be long-lived and the domains genuinely complex.

The technologies and the kind of work I'm hired to do.
  • Back-end and services: .NET C#, ASP.NET Core, Java, Spring Boot, REST and GraphQL APIs, microservices, message-based integration.
  • Data: Postgres, MS-SQL, schema and entity modelling, migrations, bitemporal data.
  • Platform: Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, CI/CD pipelines, private VPS.
  • Roles: Senior back-end developer, lead developer, application architect — often combined with upskilling the client's own developers.

Client engagements

Some clients are described rather than named, where I'm not at liberty to disclose them.

UFST: Ejendomsdataplatform

Lead developer · 2021–current

I lead the effort to establish a greenfield microservice-oriented platform where each service is a Spring Boot application exposing a REST API and using RabbitMQ for back-channel messaging. I oversee a team of 7 developers, ensure code consistency, run quality reviews, and regularly facilitate code sessions to upskill the client's developers. Initially sold as a three-month engagement in 2021, but the client has continously extended with new projects within Ejendomsdataplatformen.

  • Sole developer of a feature otherwise handled by an external partner, saving SKAT a 200M DKK yearly service fee.
  • Built the platform's most crucial components: loading all Danish properties and addresses, the scheduling service, and the most complex data orchestration services.
  • Develop and maintain several high-impact libraries, such as a generic library handling bitemporal updates to real estate data.
  • Own the strategy for keeping Java and Spring versions current across services.

Banking Circle: Cross-border payments infrastructure

Software Development Engineer · 2020–2021

Built payments infrastructure for a team directly serving some of the bank's largest clients, including Alibaba and Stripe. I started in the Data & Reports team building highly scalable, performance-intensive reporting microservices, then became the primary developer leading the initial efforts in the bank's Virtual Banking initiative. I also developed the bank's report scheduling and feature-toggling components, and the Entity Framework Core database migration approach adopted by several development teams.

Labour union: Payroll calculation platform

Sr. developer · 2020

A proof of concept for a digital tool supporting payroll calculation across more than 100 collective agreements, with the requirement that new agreements could be added over time. The system needed correct pay calculation, detailed analysis of time registrations, quick verification of an existing payslip, and traceability for every result. As primary developer I built a REST API in ASP.NET Core against a third-party rule engine, and a ReactJS single-page front-end. New collective agreements were supported by updating JSON rule sets in MS-SQL, which dynamically generated the calculation tables.

Styrelsen for Arbejdsmarked og Rekruttering: Nedbringelse af sygefravær i den offentlige sektor

Sr. developer · 2019–2020

STAR set out to reduce sick leave in public workplaces with particularly challenging working environments. One deliverable was a digital system where workplace administrators could enter sick leave data, monitor it, and view statistical key figures. I handled the entire implementation — database models, back-end, and front-end — hosted on Azure.

Rigspolitiet: Teledata

Sr. developer · 2019

The National Police initiated an independent external investigation into the police's use and handling of historical telecommunications data in criminal cases — a case that received significant attention in the Danish media. I developed the software tools used to extract and analyse telecommunications data from a large variety of sources.

Miljøstyrelsen: Råstofindvinding på havet

Lead developer · 2019

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency supervises the extraction of raw materials at sea and needed a future-proof reporting solution giving both the agency and permit holders an overview of extracted amounts. I led the developer team building a front-end and back-end application displaying a map of all extraction zones and vessel movement patterns.

Undervisningsministeriet: Sprogprøver i 0. klasse

Lead developer · 2019

Part of a government initiative to strengthen students' language skills, this system had to be easy and intuitive to use in a classroom setting while supporting language tests covering auditory attention, vocabulary, grammar, storytelling, conversation, and early writing and reading. The tests were developed with language researchers at the University of Southern Denmark, and their scoring rules had to be implemented faithfully. As lead developer for sprogprøver.dk I was primarily responsible for the data models, the GraphQL back-end in ASP.NET Core, and the relational database entities.

Styrelsen for Arbejdsmarked og Rekruttering: IBBIS2 — integrated healthcare treatment

Sr. developer · 2019

A research project investigating the effect of healthcare treatment combined with structured employment interventions. I was the sole developer on a web application for collecting, managing, and processing citizens' health data, responsible for critical parts of the server and database code including security measures for sensitive data. Much of the effort went into entity models and database schemas for questionnaires, and role-based access management down to an individual respondent's replies.

CopenHill: IoT SmartCity

Developer · 2018

CopenHill must account for the number of people on its ski slope at all times, and control visitor numbers in real time to comply with fire and load-capacity regulations. A person counter at the elevator and a camera monitoring the slope entrance fed a machine learning component that published an event per arrival and departure. I built a node.js Express web app displaying the current guest count, and an Azure Function that listened on a Service Bus, aggregated incoming and outgoing guests, and pushed each calculation to the web app over SignalR.
